Lesson

不管…都 (no matter…, still…)

1. Explain it simply

不管 (bùguǎn) means 'no matter' or 'regardless'; it is the colloquial partner of 无论.

The first clause must contain a question word (谁, 什么, 怎么样, 多 + adjective) or a choice like 冷还是热.

都 (or 也) sits before the verb of the second clause: 不管…,(subject) 都….

都 stays right before the verb - do not pull it up next to 不管 or leave it off.

2. Show examples

不管天气怎么样,他都去跑步。

Bùguǎn tiānqì zěnmeyàng, tā dōu qù pǎobù.

No matter what the weather is like, he always goes running.

都 keeps the result the same

不管多难,我都会努力。

Bùguǎn duō nán, wǒ dōu huì nǔlì.

No matter how hard it is, I'll always work hard.

多 + adjective asks 'how…'

不管谁来,我们都欢迎。

Bùguǎn shéi lái, wǒmen dōu huānyíng.

No matter who comes, we welcome them.

谁 covers every person

3. Share a tip

不管 needs an open question - pair it with a question word or 还是, never with a plain statement.
