HSK 4 Grammar Points List
HSK 4 is where Mandarin grammar turns into argument. HSK 3 gave you 把, 被, and basic complements; Level 4 layers on the connectors that let you build long, reasoned sentences - concede a point, state a condition, or push an idea to its limit. MyHSK4 gives every pattern its own rule page and drills. A handful you will lean on most:
- Not only, but also with 不但…而且: stack two related facts, e.g. 他不但会说汉语,而且说得很流利。 (He can not only speak Chinese, but speaks it fluently.)
- No matter with 无论…都 / 不管…都: hold a result steady across every option, e.g. 无论多忙,他都会回复邮件。 (No matter how busy he is, he always replies to emails.)
- Even with 连…都: mark the extreme case, e.g. 这个问题连老师都答不出来。 (Even the teacher can't answer this question.)
- Potential complements: say whether an action can succeed, e.g. 听得懂 (can understand by listening) vs. 听不懂, and 来得及 (there is still time) vs. 来不及.
- Conditions with 只要…就 and 只有…才: set how strict a requirement is, from "just do X" to "only if X."
Each pattern gets a rule page, a drill set, and a slot in the sentence builder, so you move from spotting a structure to producing it under time pressure. For the complete rundown, read our guide to HSK 4 grammar points.
HSK 4 Grammar Under the HSK 3.0 Standard
Under the HSK 3.0 standard (effective July 2026), HSK 4 opens the Intermediate band. Its grammar moves past single clauses into linked reasoning: concession (虽然…但是, 即使…也), cause and effect (由于…因此, 因为…所以), emphasis with 连…都, and the full set of potential, result, and degree complements that pin down exactly how an action turns out. Our drills and sentence builder track the updated syllabus, so you rehearse the patterns the new Level 4 exam actually tests, including its longer written section.
